Matt and Shannon are a pretty cool couple, although I’m biased. Shannon is a good friend of mine from college. When Shannon first approached me about being their wedding photographer, I thought she was joking around and I just brushed it off. A few weeks later, she made it clear that she was serious.
I have to admit- I was a little unsure at first because I knew I’d be giving up my chance to dance all night long… and for me, its really hard to restrain from dancing to Sugarhill Gang’s Apache- Jump on it. Some would think I’d be giving up my invite to a big celebration and it would be all work. But Shannon didn’t see it that way. She saw it as a great way to include me as an important part of her day. After all, your photographer is one person you spend most of that day with!
Although I felt so honored (and flattered), I was still a little unsure. I thought about her words and her love of pictures (seriously… her dorm room had a ton of amazing b&w photos). Of course- wedding pictures are important to many brides, but this is especially true for her. Photography has a special place in her heart and her wedding pictures would be one of the biggest aspects of their wedding. I realized it was absolutely the right thing to do.
When we sat down to discuss everything, she was very excited. She knew exactly what she wanted for their e-session: the beach and a sunset. Turns out this was something she’d always wanted. So the pressure was on! Fortunately, everything worked out perfectly and it made for a fun, adventurous session.
Shan & Matt- I am so grateful to be a part of your wedding day. I am very happy for you! I can’t wait for your November wedding! Oh and per our verbal agreement… I will take a dancing break or two!
